DVLA Service for Age Related requirements.

This is a VJMC UK service for Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency to meet their UK only Age Related Registration requirements.Use this for Imported and UK motorcycles that have lost their registrations, when no evidence of the original registration is available.

This service is for Japanese motorcycles in the UK only.

Important Note: The Dating letter supplied is in no way a guarantee of Authenticity of the vehicle and you should make your own investigations into the provenance of any Classic Motorcycle.

The VJMC is authorised to:-

• Issue Age related certificates for Japanese motorcycles to help obtain a UK registration. This includes Imported and UK motorcycles that have lost their registrations, when the original registration can’t be proved.  

The VJMC cannot:-   

• Find and locate bikes or previous owners - The club does not have access to the DVLA database.  
• We cannot enter into any debate or discussion as to whether your bike is genuine, original or not. 
• Advise where your bike was first registered or by whom.  
• Advise on how to fill in DVLA forms or indeed fill them in.   
• Return Photographs, Documents and other paperwork.   
• Get involved with any disputes between you and the DVLA regarding your application.

1. Proof of Frame, Engine Number and VIN plate (if fitted).

Clear photographs of the complete Stamped Frame and Engine numbers are required and, Vin plate if fitted, shown in one Photo. Chalk or marker pen rubbed into the numbers can aid photography. If you can’t read the numbers then we can’t and they are not good enough. If evidence can't be supplied then we reserve the right to refuse a Dating letter. 

2. Photographs of the complete bike from each side. 

Please send at least 1 photograph of each side of the complete bike, don’t chop off the wheels or other parts. The reason for this is so that we can ensure most parts consistent with the year of manufacture, if a machine has been altered with parts from different years or bikes, the DVLA might wish to class the bike as a special and issue a Q plate. Motorcycles may require inspection. The bike must be complete and in one piece, and lights etc fitted, otherwise the DVLA may issue a “Daylight” only registration. If sending original Documents by Royal Mail, then send them “Signed For” otherwise normal post is acceptable.

3. Ensure Dating Letter Application form has all the following information:

• Bike Make, Model and CC.  
• Brief history of bike.  
• Your estimated Year of Manufacture.  
• Frame and Engine numbers. 
• VIN plate or Colour label. 
• Any other labels and information that may help.  
• Your Name and Address (including Post code).  
• Email address and Phone numbers in case of problems 
• Club membership number (if requiring discount) 
• Please note that any original documents and photos sent will not be returned.  

4. The Fee

** Dating Letter applications will not be progressed until payment has been made **

The cost for this service is shown on the PayPal form below and the Dating Letter. Our club members receive a discount. Those wishing to become members of the VJMC may forward a single payment to cover certificate and joining the Club.

This service is for Japanese motorcycles in the UK only.

You can pay with PayPal below. This also includes pay with debit or credit card even if you do not have an account.

Payment must be made in advance of sending in your paperwork.  If you don't have a Paypal Account, please pay by card as a guest.  To do this please complete the relevant box below and click "Buy Now".  At the Paypal login just click "Pay with Debit or Credit Card", do not fill in any login details.  Enter your details and the card details as instructed to make a payment. Payment by any other method may result in a delay of up to 3 weeks to process and send out your Certificate. 

Please select Make and Model. Please do not enter N/A or similar, it needs to be a valid make and model.

If you do not, then your application will be delayed.

Please do not dismantle your motorcycle immediately following an application to DVLA, wait until your new V5C has arrived showing your age related number. They may wish to examine your machine before proceeding with the issue of a new registration and will reject if they are not presented with a complete bike.

Note: The validity of Dating letters expire after 12 months, so get your forms into the DVLA as soon as you can. It is best to apply for a registration before restoring the bike as we still need to see the frame number after it has been painted, so does the MOT tester. Only send the original dating letter to the DVLA, they won’t accept a photocopy. If a Dating letter is lost during the 12 months whilst it is still valid, and vehicle still meets the current DVLA requirements, then a £20 fee is payable for a re-print. In any other case it would require a new Dating application to be made.

Occasionally the Dating Team are asked to assist in overturning a ‘Q’ plate and obtaining an age related registration instead. DVLA are very reluctant to do this and will only do so in exceptional circumstances. This also applies to a request to change an incorrect date on a V5C.  

Please initially contact the relevant marque Dating Officer for advice as to your chance of success. If an application is made then the fee whether successful or not is £45.00 for members and £65.00 for non-members.

If you need the Club to supply an V627 Inspection form for the DVLA this will also incur a £20 fee. Please only use the payment button when you have spoken to a dating agent.
